ASPR Meeting, A Good Time to Show Respect for Physician Recruiting Professionals
by Travis Singleton
Part of the job description of being a Physician Recruiting Professional is explaining to people at parties, family gatherings or other social settings exactly what it is we do. Physician recruiters are members of a relatively new profession, and even within the healthcare industry not everyone is familiar with our duties or role.
The Association of Staff Physician Recruiters’ Annual Meeting next week offers a good opportunity to address this issue. ASPR’s annual event will gather hundreds of physician recruiters from around the nation eager to expand their professional knowledge and better equip them to handle the growing recruiting challenges facing their facilities.
And in the era of health reform, there is a lot more to know. Physician recruiters have to be up to speed on everything from diversifying delivery systems, to new reimbursement formulas, emerging physician employment models, compliance and immigration issues and so much more. It is a challenging yet rewarding time to be a physician recruiting professional – a fact that will be very much on display at the ASPR meeting.
As ASPR Gold Level Sponsors, Merritt Hawkins’ is committed promoting the importance and the role of physician recruiting professionals – a topic we have addressed many times in articles and blogs in the past and will soon be addressing again in RecruitingTrends.com – a noted online publication for the recruiting industry. In a few weeks, RecruitingTrends.com will be featuring a column by Merritt Hawkins’ executive Kurt Mosley entitled, “A Little Respect for Physician Recruiters, Please.” The column will track the growing responsibilities of physician recruiters and will reflect on the major impact they have on their facilities.
I would be happy to forward a copy of the column to readers when it comes out. You can email requests to me at travis.singleton@merritthawkins.com. If you will be attending the ASPR meeting, I and other Merritt Hawkins representatives will be at booth #714. I hope to see you there!
