The Department of Academics at Merritt Hawkins is honored to work with the Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest School of Medicine to present an opportunity as Chief of the Section of Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine.
The Section of Neonatology is made up of 13 neonatologists and 2 non-clinical faculty, as well as 6 fellows. The section covers 100 NICU beds, caring for 1,500 infants each year. They provide services for Brenner Children's Hospital, Wake Forest's 146-bed academic children's hospital in Winston-Salem, as well as neighboring hospitals in Winston-Salem and throughout the region. Brenner Children's Hospital is the referral center for Western North Carolina, Southern Virginia, and Eastern Tennessee. In addition to their NICU coverage, the section has developed 3 subspecialty clinics: a NICU Follow-up Clinic, a Neurodevelopmental Follow-up Clinic, and a Perinatal / Neonatal Palliative Care Clinic.
The Chief’s role includes defining and achieving the section's strategic, clinical, research, and operational goals. Duties will include administrative leadership, clinical care, research mentorship, and academic program development. The Chief will be expected to be a strong advocate for the section. The Chief will also be expected to enhance and mentor faculty research activities within the program.
