We currently have clinical openings for Family Practitioners and Internists for staff, Medical Director, and Deputy Medical Director level positions. In 1967, we were the first nonsectarian, free medical clinic in the United States. Our organization has a long and deep history advocating and helping the underserved population. We provide Primary Medical Care, Mental Health Services, Social Support, Re-entry, and Substance Use Disorder Treatment to the uninsured, homeless, and the socio-economically disenfranchised including those with HIV/AIDS.

We have 4 separate clinic locations in downtown San Francisco that provide an integrated model. Each clinic has its own unique history of serving a wide patient base from African American, API, Co-Occurring Disorders, HIV/AIDS, Homeless, Incarcerated, LGBTQ, MSM, Parolees, Probationers, Women and Children, and Youth and Young Adults.

Job Details:
  • Provide preventive-oriented, ambulatory primary care in an outpatient clinic treating chronic disease, addiction, and mental illness, as part of an integrated healthcare team in a patient-centered health home delivery model.
    • We have 1 Psychiatrist and 2 LCSWs at each clinic practice
  • Between 1:4 to 1:5 call with minimal telephone only
  • 18 patients per day (total patient panel of 1,100) 
  • Patient population is 18 years and older
The ideal candidate is comfortable:
  • Treating chronic disease, mild to moderate mental illness, and issues like addiction
  • Understand social determinants of health, impact on health, and referral to support addressing patient needs regarding determinants
  • Comfortable with or has experience in transgender health
  • Needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, HIV, and Hepatitis C
Medical Director Position: 
  • We have medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through (the medical director may have an opportunity to get an adjunct professor title through UCSF)
  • Oversight of the clinical management of the practice and direct management of 1 Physician, 2 Nurse Practitioners, and a PA
  • Approximately 50% administrative duties includes 4 to 5 half days, seeing an average of 10 patients
  • Patient mix consists of mostly adult patients
Deputy Healthcare Officer: 
  • Oversight of the clinics' Medical Directors – great position for someone wanting to advance their leadership career
  • 80% administrative and 20% clinical
