Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Assistant Dean for Quality Improvement. The new medical school is a collaboration involving Western Michigan University, a national public doctoral university in the U.S., and two award-winning teaching hospitals, nationally recognized for innovation and quality. WMed is one of the few U.S. medical schools in several decades to be built entirely from the ground up.

We are seeking an inspiring leader who will provide strategic, operational, and thought leadership to implementing WMed’s mission of providing extraordinary clinical care to its patients, serving its community of patients and referring clinicians, and engaging its staff, patients, and their families in fostering innovation, education, and discovery. The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, clinic leadership, clinical department chairs, nursing, pharmacy, and administrative leadership to develop and implement a superior quality and safety program, and to ensure regulatory compliance and accreditation for WMed’s clinical enterprise.

As a newer U.S. medical school, WMed is an exciting environment to pursue an academic career. The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching hospitals, Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare. The school welcomed its inaugural class in August 2014, and is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation supported by private gifts, clinical revenue, research activity, tuition, and endowment income. The home of the new medical school includes the WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine Clinics, a modern 60,000-square foot clinical building on the Oakland Drive Campus, and a 350,000-square foot educational building in downtown Kalamazoo. There are two floors supporting clinical and laboratory research, and the medical school acquired the Innovation Center, a 69,000-square foot, purpose-built incubator and co-working space, located on the Parkview Campus. There are more than 200 residents and fellows in nine residencies and three fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). WMed is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) for continuing medical education.

The successful candidate will be a board-certified physician by the American Board of Medical Specialties, with a minimum of 5 years of medical experience in their specialty area and 3 years of relevant ambulatory care experience in quality, patient safety, regulatory and accreditation, or performance improvement. Certification with CPHQ, CPHRM, and/or CPPS would be preferred.
