Merritt Hawkins has been tasked to recruit one Gastroenterologist to join their hospital.
This Hospital is the best in New York State, according to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which recently released its rankings of U.S. hospitals. The Centers assessed hospitals on four areas: mortality and patient safety, patient satisfaction, clinical care processes, and overall efficiency. Over its 125 year history, the hospital has grown and expanded to become a medical campus with a 162-bed acute care hospital and an attached 80-bed residential care facility.
The Hospital in a truly welcoming community within 30 miles of a medical university and within 35 miles of Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton. This is a top destination to raise a family as there are excellent public schools and private school options. There are two Colleges in the town and it has a vibrant down-town area. All amenities are close by along with excellent restaurants, and a fantastic golf course and country club. As of 2018, the County population was close to 50,000. The medical center’s primary service area has a population of 75,000 people.
This is a 162-bed acute care hospital with an attached 80-bed residential care facility. The medical center is accredited by the Joint Commission and provides area residents with a broad range of services. These services include cardiology, cardiac rehab, maternity, pediatrics, emergency services, prompt care, intensive care, laboratory, nutrition counseling, surgery, medical imaging, pharmacy, medical/surgical care, psychiatric care, respiratory care, and physical rehabilitation services.
The incoming Gastroenterologist will be employed by the Medical Center. This will be a full time position with office hours from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday-Friday. By being an employed physician in this established, stable practice, a physician will be able to devote themselves to delivering exceptional patient care without the worry and risk of owning and a practice.
In recruiting a Gastroenterologist, the Hospital seeks to complete its expert team to provide quality health care to a truly underserved community. There are currently two Gastroenterologists in the community. One has been with Cortland for several years but unfortunately has accepted a position in Syracuse in more of an academic role. The other has been with the hospital for over two years.
The incoming Gastroenterologist will work outpatient medicine two days a week and do scopes two to three days per week. They will also do hospital consults as needed. The call schedule is 1:3 week days including one weekend per month. Rarely do they come into the hospital. The hospital is currently recruiting for a fulltime, experienced advanced practice professional for the GI group.
They recently did a seven figure renovation to the operating room to add a dedicated endoscopy suite. There are three procedure rooms include brand new Olympus equipment. Endoscopy procedures at the hospital include but are not limited to: Upper Endoscopy or Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Polypectomy, Esophageal Dilation, biopsies of esophagus, stomach or colon.
The Endoscopy Unit is run very efficiently, which allows the physicians to do a high volume of scopes daily. The incoming Gastroenterologist will have the ability to do 15 to 18 scopes per day if desired. An ACU RN turns the suite over and brings in the next patient, while an OR RN scrubs in for cases and a CRNA oversees the anesthesia for the patient.
There is an opportunity to do ERCP if desired.
