The University of Texas at Austin University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a dynamic, experienced physician leader to serve as its next Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer. Ranked among the biggest and best research universities in the country, UT Austin is home to more than 51,000 students across 18 different schools and its student body represents all 50 states and over 120 countries.
University Health Services is a multidisciplinary outpatient practice committed to providing outstanding clinical care for the students of UT Austin. Their services include general medicine, urgent care, women’s health, sports medicine, nutrition services, allergy/immunization/travel, physical therapy, lab, radiology, and health promotion/prevention. The UHS team includes 25 providers and 169 total staff currently treating over 24,000 unique patients per year in over 69,000 outpatient visits. UHS has ample clinical space, staff, resources, and campus support to continue delivering excellent clinical care that is consistently ranked at the highest percentiles of patient satisfaction.
The incoming Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will practice clinical medicine one half day per week in their respective specialty. The remaining 90% of their time will be committed to clinical supervision, organizational oversight, campus leadership, and strategic planning activities. The CMO will serve as a liaison to campus leaders and local media and be responsible for public health emergency planning and response. The CMO will be responsible for all clinical services, initiatives, and programs and will report to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. Successful applicants will have a medical degree and U.S. board certification in a specialty relevant to student health in addition to at least three to five years of leadership experience and oversight of other healthcare providers. Applicants who have executive leadership in a student health program or multidisciplinary ambulatory care practice will be highly considered.
